Memento's of Libby Yount Harley
Elizabeth Yount Harley was my greatgrandmother and the wife of Laban Becker Harley.
From her life I have several memento's dating from the late 1800's.
is a small notebook with bits of hair from her siblings and parents sewn onto pages with the names neatly penned above.

Enos Yount, father of Libby Yount Harley
Esther Smith Yount, mother of Libby
There is also a journal spanning several years in the 1880's. Although scant in detail, it is enlightening as to the daily and weekly rythmn of life. The Yount family lived on the West side of the Stillwater River on a farm near a little town called "PigEye". Although Libby did the expected washing, quilting, gardening, canning and sewing; it is interesting to note how much "visiting" went on. The rural setting and the amount of time it took to go by wagon or buggy between towns and farms didn't seem to keep people from spending time together.
Also interesting are the repeated Saturday'entries:
"done Saturday's work."
Apparently, Saturday was always the same and therefore not worthy of note beyond those three words.

Friend Libby,
True friendship is a golden knot,
Which Angels hands have tied,
Oh break it not, lest all the gold,
Should scatter and divide.
