The Ice House
Walt Hoover built the first ice house down closer to the barnyard. We hauled the ice to the house from the pond. We thought that was too slow a work, to haul the ice down there, so we had some lumber sawn and Walt Hoover built me a trestle down to the ice house, two or three hundred feet long. We put the ice on the trestle at the pond and it would slide down to the ice house. This was only a small house, and inadequate, so along about 1890, I had Walt Hoover build a larger house with a capacity of 200 tons, about 20 or 30 feet northwest of the pond. The old house had had a capacity of 100 tons.
