Illusion Couture
Guinevere 1999
Part of my personal
Halloween costume challenge is that the costume be made of as many recycled
items as possible to achieve something fun and beautiful.
This dress was
recycled from a bridesmaid's dress of blue acetate satin found in a secondhand
store.
I removed and replaced the short, hugely puffed sleeves held on with elastic bands with the tie ends of the huge blue bow which hung the on the front hip.
Then added black lace sleeves with sequin trimmed cuffs, removed the scutched front bodice panel and refitted to size, then overlaid sections of the bodice and skirt with black lace.
I also removed the heavily gathered skirt and re-draped it into a smooth front and pleated back. Black sequins trim it out.
The wig was created from 3 red hair extensions which I sewed into a fine net slumber cap and decorated with sequins and rhinestones. The total cost of materials was about $10.00. Labor, of course, was off the scale!
But that's half the fun.....just working along as the costume and the character develop.
